Brighter Headlights ft. Porsche's LED Technology

Porsche New Led headlight Technology:

The German automobile manufacturer, Porsche has revealed the new HD matrix LED headlight technology. In this thread we are going to explore this new innovative technology. So without any further ado, let's get started.

Each of the four units consists of 16,384 LEDs or pixels. This is numerous times more than the current single-unit LED matrix lights that have 84 pixels per headlight. This high LED count is possible due to the new LED technology developed by Porsche, Bosch, Infineon, and Nichia These lights operate at an intensity of up to 160lx or 300lx with the high beams enabled. These lights feature the micro-LED technology. This means that each LED has the same thickness of a human hair.

The lights also feature a welcome and departure animation. They also have settings to reduce glare on road signs. Other functionalities include include low and high beams, glare-free high beam, adaptive highway high beam, dynamic safety zone, and sign glare reduction.

The new matrix system is controlled by the new ECU which offers a refresh rate of 16 milliseconds. ECU will depend on navigation, camera systems, infrared sensors, and steering position to adapt the lights. The intensity of the high beam HD matrix light can be adjusted in 1024 different steps. The company claims that the new technology will reduce glare and dazzle on road signs.

According to Benjamin Hummel, Manager Light Modules and Regulation head of lighting modules at Porsche, the new headlights setup provides added homogeneity and performance compared with the existing unit. He explains that they have achieved good light distribution with four light sources. He further says that a greater illumination will lead to a better lighting performance.
